Sedimentation Tank

TARIS Dewatering Sedimentation Tanks are designed to receive water discharged from dewatering pumps before it is released from the project site.

The tank temporarily holds pumped water, allowing sand, silt and heavier suspended particles to settle by gravity before the water moves to the final discharge point. This makes sedimentation tanks a useful part of construction dewatering, excavation drainage and groundwater-control systems where managing sediment in pumped water is important.  TARIS supplies sedimentation tank solutions for projects across the UAE, Oman and Bahrain.

How It Works

Dewatering Pump Water is removed from the excavation, trench or groundwater-control system. Sedimentation Tank The pumped water enters the tank and is temporarily retained so heavier solids can settle. Controlled Discharge Water then leaves the tank through the designated outlet and continues to the approved discharge location or further treatment stage. This setup can help contractors manage dewatering water in a more organized way.

Why Use a Sedimentation Tank?

Dewatering pumps can draw groundwater together with sand, fine soil and suspended material from excavation areas. Instead of sending this water directly to the discharge point, a sedimentation tank provides an intermediate settling stage. As water remains in the tank, heavier particles settle toward the bottom, helping reduce the amount of sediment carried into the next stage of discharge.

Where Sedimentation Tanks Are Used

Sedimentation tanks can support applications such as construction dewatering, excavation drainage, trench works, foundation projects, wellpoint systems, groundwater control, civil infrastructure works and temporary water-transfer projects. They are especially useful where pumped water contains visible sand, silt or soil particles that should be allowed to settle before discharge.

Tanks for Construction Projects

On construction sites, dewatering water can change in quality depending on soil conditions and excavation activity. A sedimentation tank gives project teams a dedicated point to receive pumped water and manage sediment before discharge. The required tank configuration should be selected according to pump flow, sediment load, site space, discharge arrangement and project operating conditions.

Sedimentation Tank FAQ

It receives water from the dewatering pump and provides time for heavier sand, silt and suspended solids to settle before the water continues to the discharge point.

Not exactly. In dewatering applications, its main role is sediment settling and discharge-water management rather than simply storing water.

It can be useful when pumped groundwater contains visible sand, silt or soil particles and the project requires an intermediate settling stage before discharge.

Yes, the discharge line from a suitable dewatering pump can be routed to the sedimentation tank as part of the project’s water-management setup.

Selection should consider pump flow, expected sediment load, required retention time, available site space and the final discharge arrangement.
