Dewatering Pump Checklist: Before Purchase & Site Installation

A dewatering pump works best when the pump, hoses, fittings and site setup are planned together. Use these two short checklists before purchase and before starting the pump on site.

  • Pump size suitable for required flow and head
  • Diesel or electric drive confirmed
  • Suction hose
  • Layflat / discharge hose
  • Suction strainer
  • Hose fittings and clamps
  • Flanges and couplings
  • Reducers or bends, if required
  • NRV / check valve, where required
  • Basic spare parts availability
  • Technical datasheet / pump performance curve
  • Service and maintenance support
  • Pump positioned on firm, level ground
  • Suction hose correctly connected
  • Suction-side joints completely airtight
  • Strainer properly submerged
  • Suction hose free from sharp bends or collapse
  • Discharge hose securely connected
  • Couplings and flanges tightened
  • Fuel, engine oil or electrical supply checked
  • Priming system checked
  • Suction and discharge lines clear of blockage
  • Discharge point safely arranged
  • Trial run completed before continuous operation
